Think about it: you’re scrolling mindlessly through Instagram Reels. Every video meshes together in one big, hour-long warp of trending sounds. You eventually manage to peel your eyes away because, you know, you have real-life things to do. Do you remember anything you’ve just watched? Unfortunately, it’s highly unlikely.

Lets now consider that from the other angle, from the business angle. How do you make your videos stand out in a sea of mindless scrollers so that they not only stay engaged with your content (and your brand), but also REMEMBER your videos. You want the information you relay, be it educational, funny, or anything in between, to be as sticky as possible. So, how do you achieve that? Read on…

Strategy, strategy, strategy! Define what you’re trying to achieve through the video. This will make it so much easier for you to hit the mark with your video concisely, communicating what you need whilst maintaining the ever-precious attention of your audience!

Start your video STRONG. Stats can vary about how long you have to grab the attention of your audience, but it’s usually between 2-5 seconds… yeah, it’s not a long time. The first moments are crucial.

Create a connection in the opening line. Let your audience know what they’re about to see, hear and learn. As humans, we love a story that we can relate to. Make sure that you know who your audience is (age, gender, occupation, the lot). You can find out more about target audiences here.

Solve a problem, and solve it fast! Create value for your audience. This feeds directly from creating connection – demonstrate that you’ve got the answers that they need. Hook the audience in, for example “If you’re struggling with … then this video is made for you”.

Use tone and visuals! No one wants to watch a plain video with monotonous sound. You care about what you’re talking about, so show that! Sound excited, speak clearly, and use visuals to aid your story.
