Are you ready to take your concert photography to the next level?

Are you a concertgoer trying to capture memories of your favourite artist on camera or are you an experienced photographer?

We’ve got you covered with some expert tips from our pro photographer Travis Hayto. With 13 years of experience and a portfolio full of some of the biggest names in the music industry, Travis knows a thing or two about capturing the energy and excitement of a live show.

Whether you’re a seasoned photographer or just starting out, you can improve your music photography by focusing on these three elements.

Freeze the moment:

As a concert photographer, one of the biggest challenges you’ll face is capturing fast-paced movement. To ensure your shots are sharp and in focus, make sure your shutter speed is fast enough to freeze the action. In low light conditions, like concerts, it’s important to have a fast shutter speed, so try to keep your aperture as wide open as possible to let in more light. If you’re still struggling with lighting, don’t be afraid to increase your ISO – cameras have come a long way, and you can get away with an ISO of 5000 or higher without sacrificing quality.

Enhance your background:

A great way to add depth and interest to your concert photos is to pay attention to the background. Think about what elements you can incorporate into the background to make the shot more visually appealing. Experiment with lighting to create texture and depth, and work with the lighting to bring the background to life.

Slow down:

When you’re at a concert, time is of the essence- you only have a limited amount of time to capture the artist in action. Don’t let the pressure get to you! Slow down, take your time, and let the moments come to you. By moving slowly and choosing your moments carefully, you’ll be able to capture the energy and excitement of the concert in a way that truly captures any live performance.

Bring the moment to life and encapsulate the feeling of an in-person concert.
